Editorial Policy

Our Commitment

Verify the Vehicle is committed to providing accurate, transparent, and useful vehicle safety information. We source all data from official government databases and never fabricate or estimate information we do not have.

Data Sourcing

All vehicle data on Verify the Vehicle comes from official US government sources:

• NHTSA — Recalls, complaints, investigations, safety ratings, vehicle specifications
• EPA — Fuel economy, emissions, fuel costs

We refresh data from these sources regularly. The last verification date is shown on every vehicle page.

Data Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that government data is complete or error-free. We display data as-is from official sources and clearly indicate when data is missing or unavailable.

Our recall severity classifications and plain-language translations are our own work, derived transparently from official government data. We deliberately publish no composite “risk score.” Our full approach is on the Methodology page.

Who Writes This

Our articles, guides and explainers are published by Verify the Vehicle as an organization. They do not carry an individual byline, because they are not the work of a named expert and we will not invent one.

We do not test cars, employ mechanics, or hold any credential issued by NHTSA, the EPA, or any other agency — and we are not affiliated with them. What we do is read the public government record and write it down in plain English with the source attached. Where a guide makes a legal or technical claim, it links to the statute, regulation, or agency page it came from, so you can check the claim rather than trust the byline.

Content Creation

Every article we publish:

• Is checked for accuracy before publication
• Cites a primary source — the statute, regulation, or agency page — for its factual claims
• Shows the date it was published, and separately the date it was last re-read and corrected
• Is corrected as soon as we become aware of an error, or when the law or regulation it describes changes

A review date only appears on a guide when the content actually changed. We do not refresh dates to make old content look current: if an article has not been revised since publication, it will show no review date at all. Our guides are not a news service, and we make no promise about how frequently they are revisited — only that what is on them is accurate as of the date shown.

What We Do Not Do

• We do not provide vehicle history reports (accidents, ownership, title)
• We do not publish Technical Service Bulletins — our dataset holds no TSB records, so no page on this site lists them
• We do not sell or license user data
• We do not accept paid placements for vehicle rankings
• We do not fabricate data or statistics
• We do not claim credentials, qualifications, or agency affiliations we cannot evidence
• We do not use affiliate links that compromise editorial independence

If you find an error in our data or content, please contact us at editorial@verifythevehicle.com. We will investigate and correct any verified errors promptly.
