Drivetrain issue
POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:LUBRICANT
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2022 R8 Spyder and 2021-2022 R8 Coupe vehicles. The gearbox may have an insufficient amount of transmission oil, which can lead to clutch slippage, and in certain driving situations, a transmission oil leak.
Consequence
Clutch slippage can cause a loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash. A transmission oil leak in the presence of hot exhaust components can increase the risk of fire.
Full campaign recordRemedy
Dealers will inspect and correct the transmission oil level, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 22, 2022. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 37O1.

How this compares
At 16 MPG combined, the 2021 Audi R8 ranks 5th of 5 two seaters EPA rated for 2021 — 4 MPG short of the 20 MPG median for that group.
That places it among the thirstiest vehicles in its class. If annual mileage is high, the running-cost gap against a class-average rival compounds quickly.
EPA puts annual fuel spend at about $4,750, $950 more than the $3,800 typical for the class. Over five years at 15,000 miles a year that is roughly $23,750, a $4,750 difference against a class-median vehicle.
Tailpipe CO₂ is 567 grams per mile — about 8.5 metric tons over 15,000 miles of driving.
Consumer complaints
No owner complaints filed with NHTSA for this model year.
Nothing on file. Newer model years often have few complaints simply because fewer cars are on the road yet.
