AIR BAGS:SRS MALFUNCTION WARNING LAMP/LIGHT
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021 Buick Envision, Cadillac CT4, CT5, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Corvette, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL vehicles. The communications gateway module incorrectly processes a loss of communication with the sensing diagnostic module (SDM), causing the air bag malfunction indicator light to inconsistently illuminate.
Consequence
The air bag malfunction indicator light may fail to warn the driver of a problem with the air bag, increasing the risk of injury.
Full campaign recordRemedy
The communications gateway module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 1, 2021. How this compares
At 25 MPG combined, the 2021 Cadillac CT4 ranks 13th of 15 compact cars EPA rated for 2021 — 8 MPG short of the 33 MPG median for that group.
That places it in the lower third of its class. If annual mileage is high, the running-cost gap against a class-average rival compounds quickly.
EPA puts annual fuel spend at about $3,050, $1,200 more than the $1,850 typical for the class. Over five years at 15,000 miles a year that is roughly $15,250, a $6,000 difference against a class-median vehicle.
Tailpipe CO₂ is 356 grams per mile — about 5.3 metric tons over 15,000 miles of driving.
