Lighting issue
EXTERIOR LIGHTING:LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE
Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2025 K5 vehicles. A software error in the Power-net Domain Controller (PDC) may cause the parking lights to flicker. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Consequence
Parking lights that fail to illuminate properly can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Full campaign recordRemedy
The PDC software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 24, 2025. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC341.

What the ratings mean
NHTSA gives the 2025 Kia K5 5 out of 5 stars overall. NHTSA does not publish enough comparable results for this class and year to rank it against peers.
NHTSA published results for every NCAP test in this program, so the overall star rating rests on a complete set of crash and rollover results.
NHTSA's dynamic test put this vehicle's rollover probability at 10.7% in a single-vehicle crash — the figure behind the rollover star rating, published here because the star alone hides how wide each band is.

How this compares
At 27 MPG combined, the 2025 Kia K5 ranks 4th of 5 large cars EPA rated for 2025 — 0.1 MPG short of the 27.1 MPG median for that group.
That places it in the lower third of its class. If annual mileage is high, the running-cost gap against a class-average rival compounds quickly.
EPA puts annual fuel spend at about $2,300, within $0 of the $2,300 typical for the class — roughly $11,500 over five years.
Tailpipe CO₂ is 331 grams per mile — about 5 metric tons over 15,000 miles of driving.
