Elevated severity
This campaign addresses a defect NHTSA classifies as carrying elevated crash or injury risk.
What the defect is
BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 i4 eDrive40, xDrive40, and M50 vehicles. The left-side longitudinal beam may crack, compromising the structural integrity of the chassis.
Why it matters
Reduced structural integrity may result in damage to the high voltage battery during a crash, increasing the risk of fire.
The remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the left-side longitudinal beam as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 14, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
What this page does not include
NHTSA's public recall feed does not supply an affected-population count, the manufacturer's own campaign number, owner-notification dates or a defect chronology for this campaign. Rather than estimate them, we omit them. Confirm whether a specific vehicle is affected — and whether the repair has already been done — using its VIN.
