STEERING — Filed 09/21/2026

On September 21st at 11:00am, I turned on my vehicle and a message stating: drive with care service power steering appeared on my dash. When I attempted to put the vehicle in drive and pull out of my parking spot, my steering wheel was completely locked. I could not turn left or right at all. I put the vehicle back in park and turned the vehicle off. I then contacted USAA to set up a tow as the vehicle was not safe to drive at that point. There is also a recall associated with my 2017 Chevy Camaro, N182182760-03-LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, this recall revision 03 came out Aug 1, 2019. This is my current issue with my vehicle, which is also associated with this recall. When I spoke with a GM representative over the phone, I was instructed to reach out to NHTSA to have my vehicle added to the recall list being that the incident matches with the recall occurrence and my vehicle year and model.

I purchased two Lexani LX-Twenty Performance tires, both 285/30R20 99W, for my 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible on April 19, 2026. On June 9, 2026, while driving down Highway 21 in Sparta, WI, I noticed my vehicle begin to shake. I was traveling at approximately 60mph when I began slowing down and heard a loud pop then my TPMS system indicated my front passenger tire was at 0 PSI. I pulled over on the shoulder of the road and upon further inspection discovered the inside wall of the tire had separated.

I purchased two Lexani LX-Twenty Performance tires, both size 285/30R20 99W, on April 19, 2026, for my 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible. On 18 September, 2026, at approximately 1:48am, while traveling on I-88 East near exit 131 in Downers Grove, IL I felt my vehicle begin to shake. I heard a pop noise and pulled over onto the shoulder at approximately 1:52am when my TPMS indicated the driver’s front tire was now at 0 PSI. Upon further inspection I discovered that the inside wall of the tire had separated.

The steering system stopped working suddenly. Sounds exactly like the recall but my VIN is not included in the recall. I had to replace the steering system at the local deal shop and I paid 100% of the cost. It only has 12,000 miles.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE — Filed 05/30/2026

The vehicle has repeatedly lost electrical power while driving. During one incident at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle’s electronics shut off and power steering assist stuttered/lost assist for several seconds, causing reduced vehicle control. During another incident while turning/in a turning lane, the engine and electronics shut off and the vehicle had to be restarted. Afterward, the vehicle struggled to restart and displayed a warning to drive cautiously due to power steering loss. The vehicle also has recurring hot-start/no-start symptoms and electrical loss after shutting the engine off. Based on my research, GM Bulletin 19-NA-052 appears to describe a related condition on 2016–2019 Chevrolet Camaro 6.2L vehicles where circuit 1 may short to ground at the starter heat shield, causing loss of electrical power or failure to start, with repair involving the starter solenoid cable. This appears to be a safety-related manufacturing/design defect because the vehicle can lose electrical power and steering assist while in motion. The vehicle/component is available for inspection upon request.

POWER TRAIN — Filed 04/15/2026

Vehicle does a vibration at high way speeds of 40 to 80 mph. Found several threads online stating the same issue. Found a technical service bulletin regarding this issue (18-NA-355). My vehicle needs a new transmission stated by the service shop.

STRUCTURE — Filed 07/04/2025

The back glass on my convertible is separating from the fabric. This isn't something I did or anyone else has done. This is a huge problem with thousands of camaro owners that have a convertible. Something needs to be done because its obvious that the design that was used on mine and many many others alike is a flawed and something that we should not have to deal with. Right now my only options are to buy a new top and spend over $3,000 to have it installed or buy some glue and rig it up myself but I refuse to do that. Please, this is my first Camaro and I love it and just want it fixed. I don't see any Mustangs or other convertibles having this issue. Attached with my photos is a screenshot from a Facebook post with over 300 comments of people having the same issue and also a service bulletin that was put out a while back. There needs to be a recall on this issue or lawsuits are going to start being filed. Thats what most people are threatening to do now.

My Steering system failed while I was goin around a curve which caused me to run someone of the road which I had to pay for the damage to their car, and caused me to hit a mailbox, I had it towed to a mechanic shop which the mechanic told me about recalls on the Camaros and stated that steering failure was one of them. Police came and I explained and showed them how my steering failed, It wasn’t any warning lights until after the incident happened.

Complete loss of electronic power steering going around a corner with no audio or visual warning, or any information in the electronic control unit for the power steering system. This happened at corner of my house at less than 30 miles an hour causing my vehicle to hit the curb the left front wheel broke off went into the body and caused the unibody damage which totaled the car. I have surveillance video of the incident

DAYS LATER CR ACTED AGAIN, NO POWER, ENGINE MISFIRE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND NO START CONDITION, AND FINALLY CACHED ON FIRE ON 01/10/2020. ALL SYMPTOMS WERE PRESENT WHEN CAR MOVING AND WHEN CHARGING GAS FOR EXAMPLE HAD TO SHUT ENGINE OFF, IT WILL NOT RESTART, LIKE BATTERY WAS DEAD, CALLED ROAD ASSISTANCE TRIPLE A, AND DIAGNOSED BATTERY TO BE FINE.THEY STATETED CAR HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AS THE VEHICLE IN FRONT ABRUPTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKES. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE CONTACT VEHICLE FRONT END WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED, NO ONE ELSE WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE CONTACT. THE PERSON THAT THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO WAS NOT INJURED. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW HOOD, FRONT LIGHTS AND BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. A NHTSA ID NUMBER/ODI: 11220867 WAS FILED PREVIOUSLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

FEB 2019, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE CHEVY DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAMARO BACK IN APRIL 2017, STATING THAT MY VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY RECALL WHICH EFFECT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. I READ UP ON THE RECALL WHICH STATED, THE ELECTRIC STEERING CAN FAIL WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE WHICH WILL MAKE IT HARD TO STEER. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TO BRING MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE, THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE RECALL AND THAT THEY WILL REACH OUT TO ME WHEN THEY HAVE ONE. MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER N182182760. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER, 19V086 * (RECALL RELATED INCIDENT) TS IT IS NOW JUNE 2019 AND ON 6/16/19, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ABOUT 15-20MPH, DRIVING AROUND A ROUNDABOUT AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME, CAUSING ME TO WRECK MY CAR WHICH CAUSED MY SEAT AND OVERHEAD AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY ALONG WITH SUSPENSION, WHEEL AND BODY DAMAGE. I HAD THE WHEEL TURNED LEFT GOING AROUND THE CIRCLE AND AS I WAS TRYING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO THE RIGHT TO EXIT THE ROUNDABOUT, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, CAUSING ME TO RUN OVER TOP OF THE CURB STRIKING MY WHEELS ON THE EDGE OF THE STEEL SEWER AND BACK INTO THE STREET STRIKING THE LEFT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE ON AN ISLAND EXITING THE ROUNDABOUT WHICH CAUSED MY AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. ONCE MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED MY ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL WAS SHUT DOWN AUTOMATICALLY. I DID SUFFER A HARD IMPACT ON MY LEFT SHOULDER FROM THE AIRBAG. GM FINALLY CAME UP WITH A REMEDY THIS MONTH 6/2019 FOR THE RECALL. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE DEALER GAVE ME GM'S CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER TO CALL AND REPORT THE INCIDENT. I HAD TO FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE AND IF MY CAR IS REPAIRABLE, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY MY DEDUCTIBLE AND SUFFER HIGHER INSURANCE RATES ALL BECAUSE OF A RECALL THAT GM FAIL TO REPAIR IN A TIMELY MANNER. NONE OF MY 2017 CAMARO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AFTER AN 18 WHEELER HIT ME WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS GOING APPROX. 55 MPH IN THE FAR SLOW RIGHT LANE. TRUCKER HIT ME ON DRIVERS SIDE AND MY CAR WAS HOOKED TO THE TRUCK. HE THEN DRUG ME APPROX. 50' AT SPEEDS OF 45-55 MPH. WHEN I DID FINALLY GET LOOSE FROM TRUCK IT THE SLUNG ME IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK WHERE HE THEN HIT ME AGAIN FROM BEHIND. AT LEAST ONE OF THE 4 AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. ESPECIALLY THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG. THIS ANGERS ME B/C IT IS ONE MAIN REASON I PURCHASED THIS CAR. AND IN ADDITION, APPARENTLY NON OF THE CRASH RESPONSE SENSORS WORKED EITHER. ONSTAR WAS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME SHOULD AN ACCIDENT OCCUR. I TRIED CALLING THEM WHILE I SAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. SAT ON HOLD FOR AN AGENT 10 MINS BEFORE I FINALLY HUNG UP.

THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE FOREARM AND NECK PAIN THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO COURTESY CHEVROLET SAN DIEGO (750 CAMINO DEL RIO N, SAN DIEGO, CA 92108 (619) 297-4321), BUT NO DIAGNOSTIC FAILURE CODES WERE FOUND. THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO HAVE HIT SOMETHING; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS PERFORMED AS INTENDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123.
