2015 Chevrolet Colorado Complaints

STEERING — Filed 07/07/2026

My 2015 Colorado has begun to periodically lose power steering. I have now several times been driving. I here a warning ding and a warning on the dash, then my power steering is completely gone. Steering becomes very difficult. This is a significant safety issue. Once I am able to safely pull out of traffic, and restart the truck, the power steering returns.

STEERING — Filed 12/17/2025

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. The power steering failure warning light illuminated. The contact, who was a retired certified mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle with an electronic power steering gear unit failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with electronic power steering gear unit failure. The contact was informed that the part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

SEATS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE — Filed 06/06/2026

Since i've had my truck the passenger seat vibrates excessively while driving; the oil alert comes on even when there is oil, current oil change; seems to not have power, shifts hard. What's interesting is that these items come up when I searched on recalls. this truck is not driven hard... mehanic cant figure out what is causing the oil alert, the passenger seat shaking excessively.. and there is a recall on You Tube Truck was purchased in [XXX], 07/15 have lived in [XXX] since 11/15. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — Filed 05/09/2026

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that they discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 193,073. The contact began having unknown issues with the vehicle and obtained a Carfax report. The report indicated the vehicle was due for an oil change. The report indicated the mileage was 292,500. The Birmingham police department was contacted and referred him to the NHTSA hotline.

STEERING — Filed 05/21/2026

Will be driving and suddenly my EPS light turns on and doesn’t allow me to turn. I have sudden loss of power assist, making the steering wheel incredibly heavy to turn. Once I pull over to safety and fully turn the truck off and back on, I can generally make it to my destination as the sensor temporarily goes off. It appears there have been recalls for this, but my specific VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Ultimately, this is extremely dangerous as I have a pretty busy route to/from work. This all randomly started happening two days ago. I am working to schedule an appointment with a local mechanic, but hoping to be included in the recall because it sounds exactly like what was happening in the recall.

STEERING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) — Filed 05/18/2025

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Service Power Steering light would illuminate and the power steering would fail. The contact would have to pull to the side of the road, turn off the vehicle, and wait a while in order to reset the vehicle's computer system and re-activate the power steering. The traction control, stability, track, and service 4-Wheel Drive warning lights were illuminated as well. The vehicle was taken to 3 different certified mechanics, who were not able to diagnose and repair the vehicle. The steering wheel was recalibrated by a mechanic; however, the failure remained persistent. The manufacturer was informed, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in any recall. The failure mileage was 115,225.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER — Filed 04/04/2026

Lose his power steering while driving down the road. System says needs work on ABS when you hit a bump the radio changes itself. The anti-theft is on when key is in ignition and going down the road it's saying it's theft mode service engine light is on even after servicing the engine

STEERING — Filed 04/17/2026

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the message "Service Power Steering - Drive with Care" was displayed. The contact used excessive force to pull over, waited for several minutes, and then restarted the vehicle. The vehicle resumed normal operation after being restarted; however, the failure returned once the contact reached the driveway at the residence. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact scheduled an appointment and drove the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired. The dealer performed a diagnostic test and retrieved DTC: C0545; indicating a failure within the Steering Wheel Torque Sensor of the electric power steering (EPS) system. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired under the recall prior to the contact owning the vehicle. The contact was then informed that no additional assistance would be provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.

STEERING — Filed 02/01/2026

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering assist functionality. The message "Loss of Power Steering Assist - Danger - Have Unit Serviced" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC: C0545. The mechanic had not yet informed the contact of what part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING — Filed 04/01/2026

The contact owned a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven and parked in the garage. Upon exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed an abnormal burning smell and smoke coming from under the hood. It was unknown whether a warning had illuminated. The contact opened the hood and noticed that the engine compartment had caught on fire. The contact closed the hood and attempted to restart the vehicle to drive out of the garage; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to push the vehicle out of the garage. The contact stated that the vehicle burned significantly from the front end to the windshield. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. No fire department report was filed. No police report was filed. There was no injury sustained. There was no property damage. The contact stated that the vehicle was a total loss and was in the process of being towed to a salvage yard. The vehicle did not have full insurance coverage but had liability coverage. The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
