THE ENGINE HAS EXCESSIVE BLOW BY FROM THE OIL FILLER CAP. HAVING A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER NUMBER 1 AND IDLING ROUGH. THERE ARE SEVERAL THREADS ONLINE CONCERNING THIS ISSUE BEING CAUSED BY WORN PISTONS AND PISTON RINGS.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE — Filed 05/12/2026

Recently my car's check engine light and the message "Service Stabilitrak" started coming up on my car, then my car started shaking while idling. I quickly took the car to my mechanic who assessed it, replaced my spark plugs, which did not solve the issue, and recommended I go to the dealership. In between these appointments my car was consistently shaking while idling and I would have difficulties accelerating especially after coming to a complete stop and often while making turns, this worsened after adding fuel to my car. The nearest Chevrolet dealership did a compression test and found that the psi in cylinder 1 was only 85, while the rest of the cylinders are 180 psi. They reported "internal engine damage causing misfire on cylinder 1" and quoted the repairs and replacement engine at $9500, almost double the value of the car if the engine was working. The codes P0300 "Engine Misfire Detected" and P0301 "Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected" were the two relevant codes in the report. However the car only has 49,860 miles on it. I see that other people have reported this issue as well and it continues to happen. Additionally, if the manufacturing issue or defect has not been rectified what are the chances of this happening again down the line with the same issue? This is a clear manufacturing defect in the engine of these cars that make them a safety hazard on the road. There is no telling when and where my engine may completely give out despite the car being low mileage and well taken care of. GM and Chevrolet should and must rectify this issue.

AIR BAGS — Filed 03/11/2026

My airbag light came on. My vehicle has less than 100K miles on it. I took it to the Chevy Dealership that I purchased it from. The dealership indicated that the passenger side rail air bag is the issue. Apparently, that airbag is no longer available. If I wanted to repair it, they can't, because there is no airbag. As long as the airbag light remains on, NONE of my airbags will deploy. My car is now a useless lemon. I don't feel comfortable driving it in the condition it's in, but I have to commute to work.

Paint bubbling and rusting alone the car even though it’s washed and is no where near salt never even been hit there are tons of issues with GM paint yall need to fix these and recall every gm car with this issue and wipers are very rough scratching windshield

Car is currently not drivable due to strong smell of gas coming from under the hood. Findings, gas is leaking into the engine and car will not crank. Diagnostic machine indicates poor fuel to fuel injector causing a gas leak within the engine.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE — Filed 11/17/2025

My 2017 Chevy Cruze had the throttle body replaced by STG Auto Group in Montclair, CA. A few months after the repair, my car began shaking violently and then shut off in the middle of the street while I was driving on 11/17/2025 This created a serious safety hazard for me and other drivers. When I took the vehicle to a local auto zone once the vehicle turned on , they told me the throttle body “needs cleaning,” but a new throttle body should not get dirty within a few months. This suggests improper installation or a defective part. The problem returned even though the part was recently replaced. I immediately called the dealership who fixed it and the manager stated I’d have to wait to the following week for another inspection and that I can not be squeezed in . The vehicle is still unsafe to drive because it shakes and can stall unexpectedly. I am concerned because this issue has happened more than once and could have caused an accident. POWER TRAIN — Filed 11/10/2025

Apparently there is a TSB from GM regarding the end for updated/replacement of parts concerning the hydraulic piping, slave cylinder and accumulator. My clutch became spongy then stuck on the floor. This happened unexpectedly (reservoir full) while driving and almost caused an accident. Apparently GM doesn't take enough accountability to update the failure before or after failure. Reporting this hoping it will eventually force a recall!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEAT BELTS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM — Filed 10/02/2025

My head lights stopped working except the day time running lights. The high beams don’t work nor the actual head lights. They just went out.

ENGINE — Filed 09/28/2025

My turbocharger is failing. My car has 83,000 miles, but had to get a completely new engine at 37,000 miles. So the engine is less than 50,000 miles old. My check engine light has turned on and it’s is the turbo charger. General Motors has a Special Coverage Adjustment N232395330 that covers models with the same engine as the Chevy Cruze. However, because the model is not listed they are refusing coverage under this adjustment. The adjustment specifically covers the turbocharger, a component or the engine. But since my model is not listed it is not covered despite having the same engine. My turbocharger began failing while I was driving on the grapevine in California. Luckily I was able to make it to my destination but had it failed over the grapevine that would have put me and my passengers in an unsafe situation. It is unacceptable that an engine with less than 50,000 miles on it which has been maintained with frequent oil changes be having this issue yet not be covered under an SCA that acknowledges the issue just doesn’t list the model.

The shutoff feature that shuts the engine? down while at a full stop/red light, is defective. I was stopped at a red-light and the engine shutdown as a gas-saver feature and stalled and I had to put my car in park and restart it in mid traffic. I was rear-ended by the person behind me, who was a hit n run. This is an unsafe feature that has been put in many Chevrolet vehicles. I called the Chevrolet # and she told me, I had to pay for the $250 diagnostic test at a Chevy dealership and I told her, Chevrolet should be responsible for the failure to restart my engine car as it is a an unsafe feature installed by them and that that they should turn off that feature for free as I was hit from behind when the vehicle did not restart. I want Chevrolet to pay to have this unsafe feature removed without charging my for an expensive diagnostic system test. I as a consumer, should have that choice! I want that flawed feature turned off in my vehicle. IT'S UNSAFE.

The car shut down in the middle of the highway which made me pull to the side and not so long after this incident the brakes stopped working for some time causing me to crash.

I should have filed a complaint here after the catastrophic failure. The next time I may not be so lucky and it could cause loss of life. I was driving at approx. 65 MPH on the frwy when bang! An explosion under my hood that caused my car to jump over a lane, I slammed on the breaks, swerved but couldn't push the brake pedal down anymore. It felt hard and would barely move. i had no way to slowdown or stop! And traffic infront of me was slowing fast. I put all my weight on that pedal even tried pumping it, but it would only move alittle. Luckily the car in front sped up just enough for me to swerve onto the shoulder. As I slowed i could depress pedal alittle if I stood up on it out of my seat but stopping distance was like 15ft while maybe going 15 mph. This all happened in a matter of minutes i still dont know how I was able to avoid an accident. The engine sounded really rough. So I called the dealership they said to bring the car in. I had already spoke. With them that week due to traction control system and transmission causing instability and brake issues. I was mortified when I found out what happened I had cracked 2 pistons & the force was so strong it blew thru the membrane that seperates the break system, got oil in my break lines! This is a new car! Dealership said it was a known issue & GM determinedtitle was a design flaw. I had 2 pistons replaced and my break system flushed my car has never been the same. There's always something little and intermitten still with the transmission & Now the engine jumps while idling and stopped in drive it jumps so hard the car jumps fwd, feels like ill hit whats in front of me. I lost significant value at only 26,290 miles, i cant afford to trade it in on disability, covid turned into long haul covid, no affordable extended warranty. I have no piece of mind in a car I dont feel safe in. What happens when the pistons fail they didnt fix. How many injuries or lives must be sacrificed before they do something.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE 25 MPH WHEN SHE UNEXPECTEDLY SAW SMOKE COMING FROM HER REAR VIEW MIRROR WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE VEHICLE AND DIALED 911 WHEN SHORTLY AFTER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE ENGINE WAS LOCATED AND BURST INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DOUSED THE FLAMES. A REPORT WAS TAKEN HOWEVER NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER BUT AND A MESSAGE WAS LEFT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THE STABILIZE AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK ON THE SIDE OF ROAD WHERE SHE SAW SMOKE EXITING THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CHEVROLET OF EVERETT LOCATED AT 7301 EVERGREEN WAY, EVERETT, WA 98203, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE ENGINE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED ON AUGUST OF 2018, WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND BEGAN TO DECELERATE IT SPEED. THE CONTACT STATED THE DASHBOARD SCREEN WENT BLACK. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS TO PARK AND RESTART THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WERE IT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED 'YOU ARE AT DEMONSTRATION MOOD' WARNING MESSAGE WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, WHEN THE VEHICLE SEIZED.THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

VEHICLE WAS PARKED, ELECTRICAL SHORT. POSSIBLY AFTER LOCKING THE VEHICLE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID. RESULTED IN FIRE DAMAGING THE WHOLE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. VISOR MELTED, BURNED FROM CENTER CONSOLE, RIGHT THROUGH THE FLOOR TO THE FRAME, DAMAGED THE SEATS. CAR IS A MESS FROM SMOKE DAMAGE. CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.

TOTALED MY 2017 CHEVY CRUZE.WHEN I SLAMMED INTO HIM MY WHOLE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS SMASHED IN AND THE HOOD WAS PINNED UP. IT WAS SCARY BUT MY AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED.

THIS VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AT NIGHT DUE TO THE "AUTOMATIC" LIGHTING SYSTEM EITHER WAS NON OPERATIONS, NOT FOCUSED IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION OR NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH. THE CRUZE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING SOUTH BOUND TO A LIGHTED INTERSECTION FROM A STOP SIGN A BLOCK AWAY. THE NORTH BOUND CAR WAS AT A STOP WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. UPON TURNING GREEN AND AFTER VIEWING THE OPPOSITE LANE TO YIELD, THE NORTH BOUND CAR PROCEEDED TO TURN LEFT AND DID NOT SEE THE CRUZE UNTIL IT WAS ALREADY IN A TURN AND LATER STATED THAT THE CRUZE CAME OUT OF NO WHERE. THE CRUZE WAS TOTALED. THE WITNESS TO THE ACCIDENT, ANOTHER NORTHBOUND CAR, STATED THAT THE NORTH BOUND CAR WAS GOING EXTREMELY SLOW AS THE LIGHT JUST TURNED GREEN. IT IS NOTED THAT THE 2016 VEHICLES WERE RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.

I PULLED INTO MY CAR PORT AND NOTICED THAT MY CAR HAD ALREADY SHUT OFF, NOT KNOWING THAT IT WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I LEFT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, TOOK OFF MY SEAT BELT AND OPENED MY DOOR TO EXIT. THE CAR STARTED AND LURCHED FORWARD AS I WAS PARTIALLY OUT OF THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE WAS STILL IN THE VEHICLE AND MANAGED TO GET IT INTO PARK BEFORE I WAS RUN OVER AS IT WOULD HAVE ALSO HIT MY MOTORCYCLE THAT WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF IT. I FIND THAT THE CAR HAS A "AUTO STOP" WHICH TURNS OFF THE ENGINE WHILE YOU ARE STOPPED AND IN GEAR, THEN THE ENGINE STARTS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. ANY OTHER TIME YOUR CAR WILL NOT START WHILE IN GEAR BUT WITH THIS IT STARTS IF YOU WANT IT TO OR NOT, EVEN WHEN IN GEAR GETTING OUT OF THE CAR CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH. I MYSELF SUFFERED SOME BRUISING AND MINOR CUTS.
