ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING — Filed 10/06/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH there was a popping sound coming from the engine compartment and the message to shut off the vehicle was displayed. The vehicle was immediately parked, and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact opened the hood of the vehicle and discovered flames coming from the engine. The fire department was called to the scene and the fire was extinguished. A Police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was deemed destroyed and was towed to a nearby storage facility. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contact about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, there was an abnormal sound and smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated that there was oil leaking from the vehicle and the engine seized. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The dealer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the report from the diagnostic test was not provided. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted by phone, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER — Filed 09/30/2026

Vehicle and gives error code "Service Safety Restraint System" and Airbag Icon comes on. I drive a 2024 model RS and have not had this vehicle for a full year. The warning comes on periodically. Sometimes when I used the auto start or when the key is used. It also can happen while im driving or after parking. It goes away if I restart the vehicle but eventually comes back on. The code machines can't find an active code.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE — Filed 09/20/2026

September 20th 2026: I was driving my 2024 Chevrolet Trax up a grade (Mountain) approximately 11AM, Driving Normally at Highway speeds, normal highway conditions, temp outside was close to 100 Degrees Fahrenheit, suddenly with no warning half way up the mountain the car lost power, check engine light turned on (Engine Power Reduced) came on, I had no option but to pull over on the highway with only 41,500 miles on the odometer. Being over 200 miles away from my home I felt devastated. Made an appointment the next morning to have the car checked out by the Chevrolet Technicians at the dealership, they stated the Turbo completely failed, the part was on a slight back order they pushed through and it took a week to get this repair done. Previous to the Turbo failing, approximately at 36,000 Miles on the odometer on or about January of 2026: I get in my Trax and the A/C will not blow cold air, took it in for service at the same dealership come to find out the A/C condenser failed or ruptured leaking Freon, I paid $1,800.00 on an expense out of pocket that was not covered by any warranties.I Even purchased the extended warranty when I bought the car with 0 miles in November of 2023. Previous to the A/C condenser failing with no warning what so ever, on November 2025 I go open my car and the remote unlock feature does not work due to a completely dead battery car would not start or open. The car had to be towed to the dealership because after they jump started it the transmission started clucking really hard when shifting into Drive. The culprit according to Chevrolet Dealer Service Advisors was just a dead battery(covered by warranty) , yet the car gave no signals of a dying battery.after picking up Car I noticed rough idle and performance after this incident, I took it back to get checked out the same day and they could not “replicate” the symptoms, they stated that they can only fix it when the car blows up since it wasn’t showing any Check engine lights. POWER TRAIN,ENGINE — Filed 09/22/2026

Over the last 18 months the check engine light has come on multiple times while driving. Each time the check engine light came on, the vehicle was taken to the dealer. I was initially told by the dealer that they could not figure it out but to bring the car back if it happens again. Each time after taking the vehicle to the dealer for the check engine light, the dealer added oil to the vehicle. On one occassion the vehicle decelerated suddenly while driving. I reported the incident in a survey that I received from the dealer after an oil change. In April 2026, the dealer said that the engine appears to be consuming too much oil and an oil consumption test is needed. In September 2026, the vehicle was taken to the dealer after the check engine light came on and the dealer stated that an engine rebuild is needed and GM would be contacted.

ENGINE — Filed 08/24/2024

I bought a brand new 24’ chevy Trax 2RS in November of 2023. By August of 2024 the Trax was already leaving orange coolant on the ground. I took it into the dealership August 22nd 2024 for service and repair; after a few hours they called me and let me know that they could not find the leak so they changed the oil and sent me on my way. Come September 2024 my 3 small children and I were on a road trip in Mexico La Rumorosa Mountains highway 2 when I noticed my car overheating on the temperature gauge; pulled over immediately found the coolant reservoir completely empty, the radiator was empty from coolant as well, so I filled it up with drinking water. Took it to the dealership on September 19th 2024 were they found the culprit to be a bad radiator a cracked thermostat housing & a bad coolant reservoir (all covered by warranty) car only had 12,000 when I started to notice the documented leak. By 13,400 miles is when the radiator failed completely. Most of the parts were on national back order, got a rental car for the time being until October 8th of 2024 when my car was fixed. Prior to all of that issue happening there was another issue while driving the car; after an auto start / stop event the car would run sloppy, (secondary power surge). Took it into the dealership they “fixed” it with a recall number (A242435780). I Strongly believe the motor suffered way more damage from the overheating than they are leading me on to believe. This is my second complaint filed here regarding the same vehicle.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS — Filed 02/12/2026

I took my car to the dealership twice due to the CarPlay not working, screens going black, rattling noises, and the transmission shuddering, jerking, and jumping. The mechanic that test drove it stated it was a rough ride and the car did not return to first gear. The transmission fluid was black with metal debris. They rebuilt that same transmission and since then my car has been way worse. I reached out the dealership had a mechanic drive it, but every time he’d say oh that was my big foot. I asked why the 1 on the RPMs and the P on the gear shift flash while in park then my car shakes loudly. He laughed and said it was normal. We returned to the dealership the manager came out with my keys and said I am glad we found it safe and sent me on my way.

AIR BAGS — Filed 07/13/2026

The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-35 MPH, the front center of the vehicle crashed into the center rear end of another vehicle; however, the air bags failed to deploy. The contact was distracted by an ambulance approaching and did not notice that the vehicle in front had braked. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a fractured rib, struck her head on the steering wheel, had a nose bleed, laceration to the lips, and bruised cheeks. The contact previously had rib surgery, which the doctors were concerned about due to the impact. Medical attention was needed. The contact researched and was made aware of an undisclosed recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The mechanic stated that the vehicle might be a total loss, but the insurance company had not yet declared the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

LANE DEPARTURE — Filed 05/18/2026

On XXX, [XXX] was applying her brakes to prepare to turn left into the fire station. Her vehicle suddenly steered to the left causing her vehicle to enter oncoming traffic. This action caused the Chevrolet Trax to collide head on with a passing vehicle. The collision resulted in 2 totaled vehicles and multiple injuries in both vehicles. It has since been brought to our attention that there is a potential class action lawsuit for similar incidents. SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE — Filed 01/10/2026

I was driving on the highway going around a ramp when I went to press on the brakes to slow down the pedal just went to the floor and the car would not slow down, causing me to go off the road. My insurance company did an inspection and said the accident was caused by engine failure and won’t cover damage. GM did inspection said it wasn’t their fault but won’t release their inspection report

I was driving down the highway going with the flow of traffic and my car caught fire. I was told by the mechanic that “the turbo line combusted and put a hole in the engine” I’ve also been told “oil got on the turbo belt and caught fire” I’ve also been told “the software recall actually had nothing to do with the software and it was an issue with turbos and something was mechanically wrong with this car. I was in the car with my 9 month old daughter. In the middle lane in the highway. The car instantly stopped accelerating leaving us going very slow compared to others. We could’ve been killed! I had to figure out how to get over and then get my daughter out of the car safely and wait on the side of the highway with a baby for fire and police to come put the fire out. When I was driving it sounded like pressure popped under the car and then I could almost hear pieces flying out. And then the dash lights came on telling me to turn the engine off. It was extremely unsafe and now I’m afraid to even drive with my baby in any car.

STRUCTURE — Filed 05/13/2024

The issue involves the upper corners of all four door frames on my 2024 Chevrolet Trax, which are extremely sharp. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. On approximately May 13, 2024, and again on August 16, 2025, my passenger in the front seat was struck in the face by the sharp door frame corner, while exiting the vehicle. In both incidents, the corner cut my passenger's cheek below the eye, resulting in small open wounds, which needed to be cleaned and disinfected. The problem has occurred twice under normal use. I reported the first incident to General Motors (GM) on May 15, 2024, but did not receive a response. On Sept 22, 2025, I reported the second incident that occurred on Sept 2, 2025, to GM, at which time they asked several questions and requested photos of my vehicle, which I provided. On Sept 22, 2025, GM requested I take my vehicle to my dealership, J.B.A. Chevrolet, for inspection. I took my vehicle to JBA on Sept 29, 2025, and was told that GM wanted photos of my vehicle, as well as photos of another 2024 Trax on the Lot for comparison. At that time, JBA had to wait for another vehicle to come in. Unknown if JBA or GM attempted to reproduce the issue during an inspection. On Oct 24, 2025, GM telephoned and issued a final determination, which I requested in writing and received on Nov 11, 2025. GM stated that because the design was consistent across Trax vehicles, and based on the facts provided, they were unable to assume responsibility for damages and suggested I resolve the issue with my insurance company. I did not ask for damages, I asked for corrective measures to avoid future injuries. I submitted a request for reconsideration on Dec 2, 2025. On Dec 16, 2025, a totally different GM office contacted me, which did not yield any results. ENGINE — Filed 01/12/2025

The contact's father owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and making a left, she observed a noise emanating from under the vehicle that sounded like loose gravel, and she observed smoke outside of the "turn off ignition" message displayed. The contact stated that she observed white/grey smoke coming through the vents in the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off, and when the contact exited the vehicle, she observed fire under the engine compartment, and the fire spread rapidly. The fire department distinguished the fire. The police reported the incident, but there was no report taken. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was deemed inoperable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure was 7,696.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving approximately at 65 MPH when a deer suddenly jumped out from the side of the road, causing the contact to hit the deer with the front driver side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact had received back injuries, but no medical attention had been sought. The contact stated they may need to seek medical assistance. A police report was filed. The contact's mother-in-law owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving 8-10 MPH from a stop sign, the vehicle was T-boned by a truck driving 30-35 MPH. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle sustained significant damage, but the air bags did not deploy. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact hit the head against the front driver's side door and the steering wheel. The contact sustained migraines. The Emergency services examined the contact but the contact did not seek medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and had not yet been evaluated by the insurance company; however, the contact stated that the vehicle could be totaled. A police report was filed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

AIR BAGS — Filed 04/05/2025

The contact owned a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving through an intersection at 20 MPH, another vehicle ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle, causing a T-bone impact. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The other driver was treated for an arm injury(arm unknown) by paramedics on the scene. The next morning, the contact's girlfriend went to a doctor, where she was treated for both back and neck pain. A police report was filed, and no property damage was reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was deemed a total loss. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

SEAT BELTS — Filed 02/08/2025

I was in a auto accident where I was hit at a high speed on my passenger front side resulting in my airbags to deploy along with my seatbelt failing to hold me in the seat where the seatbelt became fully extended and unlatched and won’t retract back into place resulting in me having a perforated small intestine and colon damage. I had to have trauma surgery to repair my small intestine where I had 22 staples in my stomach and a hospital stay of 5 days as a result. Vehicle has not been inspected by an inspector, but was inspected by adjuster with auto insurance which stated they felt the seatbelt failed. A lawyer wouldn’t take the case to look further into the vehicle. The vehicle was on hold with the insurance agency but will be released for auction shortly. Since purchasing the vehicle, there has been numerous issues, including driver side window, not rolling down radio staying on while the car is shut off and door open and Bluetooth issue along with jerking of vehicle in motion.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE — Filed 11/19/2024

On Tues 11/19/24, my son left home about 10 mins prior headed back to school in our 2024 Chevy Trax purchased in 5/2023. On his way to school, he and his friend heard a loud pop sound, followed by all the lights on the instrument panel flickering like crazy, smoke coming from under the hood, and then the car slowing to a stop, still in the road. Luckily they were able to get out because all the doors, except the driver door, locked including the trunk. The smoke got worse until it caught on fire. Good Samaritans stopped to help my 17 yo son and his friend and there was an off duty responder that turned around to put out the fire with the extinguisher he had on him, ahead of the fire department arriving on scene. This could have been very detrimental and had a very different outcome and GM/Chevy need to make sure this doesn’t happen to another family. This car was serviced and had very low mileage of less than 12k in 1.5years.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER — Filed 06/02/2024

On [XXX] our nearly brand new ICE Chevy Trax spontaneously caught on fire and was destroyed. The check engine light had come on on May 30 and we had, as the manual said we should, set an appointment with our dealer to check it out. It was not flashing and the car was running fine. My wife took two of our grandkids out on [XXX] and drove a few miles doing kid things. Then I took the car for an 8-mile round trip and came home, parking in our driveway. The only unusual thing I noticed was that when I set the parking brake I did not hear the usual sound that function makes. About 15 minutes later my wife screamed that her car was smoking. I ran out and tried to get the garden hose to water the engine compartment, which the smoke was coming from, and growing quickly. Water didn't go down below the hood well and the paint started smoking then blistering. I tried to get water into the engine compartment from under the car but could not, and nothing was burning under the car that I could see at that point. (I could not discern the under-hood source of the original fire.) Then flames appeared and I had to back off. We had called 911 at once, of course, and the Saline fire department arrived and put the fire out with their big hose. By that time the entire engine compartment was destroyed, the windshield smashed, and both front tires had exploded. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 12/27/2023

When driving 70+ mph on a county highway a dog ran out in front of my vehicle. There had been a similar instance to this where a car pulled out in front of me on the same road and my car assisted in making a full stop to avoid the accident. However, this did not happen with the dog. There was full impact damage and vehicle has been in the shop for 3+ months awaiting parts for repair.

ENGINE — Filed 01/30/2024

The contact owned a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while her son was driving at approximately 45 MPH, he observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment. The contact stated that as her son attempted to steer the vehicle off of the highway, the vehicle caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. It is unknown if there was a police report taken at that time. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard where it was diagnosed as totaled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,455.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER — Filed 10/23/2023

Unknown. On October 23,2023, at approximately 1:10am, Car was parked and off, received notification that alarm was going off. When I check the vehicle, it was in flames. Boston fire dept extinguished the fire. Police report was made the following morning, October 24,2023. I've contacted GM and I am still awaiting response. Car was a brand new 2024 chevy trax. Geico insurance reported it to be total loss.

AIR BAGS — Filed 05/27/2023

I was in a car accident where all of my airbags deployed. The seat airbag deployed, and the deflation vents were facing me. It melted my polyester shirt into me and burned my the skin across my ribs on my left side (nearest to the door). I was not aware of the location of the vents in the airbag until during the accident. This could be an issue for shorter people, who might have the airbags deploy closer to their face. I went to the hospital for the pain I was feeling in my ribs and difficulty breathing (some of which came from this airbag).
