Headrest popped open on passenger side and car hasn't been in accident since I have had it. Also my backup camera isn't working, it started going blank, and upside down til it doesn't do anything anymore.

POWER TRAIN — Filed 08/26/2026

On the morning of August 26, 2026, my 2017 Dodge Journey 2.4L was brought to DeLand Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for federal safety Emissions Recall Z98, which required updating the software calibration on the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The vehicle was scanned by the dealer at check-in (116,561 miles) and had zero transmission faults. The technician updated the PCM, and the dealer put 2 miles on the vehicle during service. Within 4 minutes of leaving the property, while accelerating to 50 MPH on a public roadway, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic loss of power and total transmission failure. The vehicle dropped completely out of gear, would roll backward while shifted into Drive, and completely refused to engage Reverse. If the vehicle was key-cycled off and on, it would move only one foot before the computer panicked, dropping it back into an immediate neutral state and free-revving the engine. The failed recall modification rendered the vehicle an immediate highway safety hazard. The dealership is actively refusing to honor the recall warranty or inspect the failed safety component. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — Filed 08/14/2025

In April 2025 I was driving and the abs light came on and windshield wipers went off sporadically. Dodge dealer found nothing wrong. It happened again in June 2025. Dodge dealer had car for 1 week and stated they could not find problem but car was safe to drive. They said to return when problems were more constant. On the morning of 8/14/2025, I dropped someone off at the dr and went to Starbucks. Went inside for order. While driving back to drs windshield wipers went crazy and car started to stutter. I pulled over .4 miles from Starbucks. When I stopped I saw smoke so got out of the car and could see flames. I went to open backdoor for my purse but door would not open. Drivers door was not fully closed so was able to retrieve to call 911. Fire department arrived quickly but front of car was already engulfed in flames. Fire department was able to get Fire out. Car was a total loss.

The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the instrument cluster was flickering, and the vehicle stopped. The contact pulled over and noticed smoke. The contact opened the hood and detected a fire. The contact extinguished the fire with some water he had. There were two unknown warning lights illuminated. There were no reported injuries, a police report, or an air bag deployment. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000. The VIN was not available.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL — Filed 02/01/2024

The contact owned a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the instrument panel began to behave erratically, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power, prompting her to attempt to quickly veer to the shoulder of the roadway. As a result, the contact was sideswiped by another vehicle on the driver's side. The air bags did not deploy. All warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact transported herself to an area hospital and was treated for a nondescript injury to her right shoulder. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Vehicle Speed Control), and the VIN was included, and parts were available. AIR BAGS — Filed 07/05/2023

Was hit by another vehicle in front driver wheel which knocked me off the roadway. During the collision I kept hitting the brakes and the car wouldn't stop. I had no control over the steering as well. My car then hit a fence. My airbags never deployed with extensive damage to the front end of my car. Because of the airbags not deploying I hit my head on the steering wheel causing injury as well as my knees hit the dashboard.

Air bags did not deploy when I hit someone at 35+mph. My passenger and my safety was put at risk because the air bags did not deploy causing us to be thrown forward forcefully causing pain in our back and neck. Car is being towed to a shop and I let them know my concerns for the air bag being faulty

I was driving and I smelled smoke, saw smoke coming from my center console. I turned and looked the backside of my center console was on fire.

My headrest (AHR) Deployed while I was at a stop light. I was not rear-ended. For that to happen. I checked online, to recalls have been made in regards to it. I took it to a dodge service center, they took pictures. On the first day. Then today I had to bring it back in, so they could inspect it. They also took more photos and let me know that it had failed and a pin was broken. A small black sharp piece was on my seat. Which I believe is what failed. I'm truly lucky I was not in motion when it happened. Something like this could cause someone to wreck or seriously injure someone. I did go to the er after it happen and they said a tbi(traumatic brain injury) and a sprain of my neck.

AS MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING FOR WORK FOR THE CENSUS, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE MESSAGE NOTIFICATION ENVELOPE BOTH APPEARED ON THE DASH SCREEN THEY FLASHED ON ONCE FLASHED OFF AND FLAMES BLEW OUT FROM BOTH FRONT WHEELS WELLS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 DODGE JOURNEY. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD AND SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE OCCUPANTS EXITED THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES AND BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. I JUST BECAME AWARE THAT A RECALL WAS MADE FOR MY VEHICLE, A 2017 DODGE JOURNEY. LAST YEAR I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN NORRISTOWN, PA AFTER MY CAR FAILED TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT WITH CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED ON A CITY STREET. MY VEHICLE WENT UP A HILL, OVER A COUPLE OF FENCES, BEFORE STOPPING AGAINST A TREE. A FEW INCHES FURTHER RIGHT AND MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER MIGHT HAVE BEEN BADLY HURT OR KILLED. MY CAR HAD BODY DAMAGE, THE BUMPER TORN OFF, THE PASSENGER DOORS DAMAGED, THE RADIATOR AND AC DAMAGED (AC STILL DOESN'T WORK), AND I NEEDED TO HAVE THE CONDENSER REPLACED. I KNEW THE CAR HAD MALFUNCTIONED, BUT NEVER RECEIVED ANY CALLS OR LETTERS ABOUT ANY RECALLS DESPITE BUYING THE CAR BRAND NEW.

ON JULY 17TH 2019. I WAS GAINING SPEED ON AN ENTRANCE RAMP TO HIGHWAY 95N IN STAFFORD, VA. AS I APPROACHED 60 MPH THE SUV'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME AND I COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL. I TRIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES WOULDN'T WORK THEY WERE HARD AND WOULD NOT PUSH DOWN. I LET IT SLOW ITSELF DOWN AND MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF 95N. I THEN PUT THE SUV IN PARK WITH HAZARDS ON. I EXITED THE SUV TO CHECK FOR ANY DAMAGE AND OR INDICATIONS OF WHAT CAUSED THE SVU TO LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ANYTHING THAT I COULD SEE. I RETURNED TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT RESTARTED THE SUV. AFTER NOTICING THAT THE RADIO WAS ON BUT NOT SURE IF THE TRUCK WAS ON. SO I RESTARTED IT TO BE SURE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. I DROVE IT HOME, 10 MINUTES DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH AND CALLED THE LUSTINE DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT TOWED TO THEM. I CAN SAY THAT THE WEATHER WAS 98 DEGREES REAL FEEL AT 110. THIS WAS AROUND 2 IN THE AFTERNOON. THE LUSTINE DEALERSHIP HAD MY SUV FROM THEN UNTIL JULY 22ND. THEY PUT OVER 100 MILES ON MY SUV AND SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME TO JUST WAIT AND SEE IF IT DOES IT AGAIN. AFTER HAVING THE PROBLEM AND GIVING THEM THE SUV I LOOKED ON HERE AND SAW A SUV WITH THE SAME EXACT EXPERIENCE. I TOLD THE LUSTINE DEALERSHIP AND GAVE THEM AN EMAIL WITH THIS INFORMATION AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO CONTACT THE OTHER DEALERSHIP LISTED IN THE COMPLAINT ON HERE. WHICH DID FIND OUT THE CAUSE. LUSTINE HAD MY SUV WHEN I GAVE THEM THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE OTHER SUV. ALSO MY SUV HAD ABOUT 26485 WHEN IS HAPPENED. THE LUSTINE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T EVEN PUT ON MY PAPER WORK THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR WHERE IN TOOK PLACE.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED AWAY. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. I WAS IN PARK WAITING FOR A SPOT TO OPEN UP IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT, TOOK MY VEHICLE OUT OF PARK AND PROCEEDED TO PUT IN DRIVE AND MOVE 20 FEET OR SO TO THE PARKING SPOT, AS I WAS TURNING INTO THE SPOT I ENGAGED THE BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BUT MY PEDAL DID NOT WORK, IT DID NOT SPRING BACK LIKE IT IS SUPPOSE TO AND MY VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND A CONCRETE PARKING PILLAR STOPPED MY VEHICLE FOR ME. I THREW IT INTO PARK AND JUMPED OUT BECAUSE SMOKE WAS POURING FROM MY HOOD TO SEE THE DAMAGE AND WHEN I JUMPED BACK IN TO THE CAR TO SHUT IT OFF I REALIZED MY CAR WASN'T RUNNING AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ACROSS THE DASH. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL PUMPED LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG. $6,000.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE LATER AND STILL BEING WORKED ON AND NO ANSWERS TO WHY MY BRAKES FAILED ME.
