FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE — Filed 09/24/2024

The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that there was a strong odor of gasoline odor inside the cabin, causing the driver and passengers to experience nausea, and the windows needed to be opened while driving the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and occurred after refueling the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone and informed the contact that the issue was unknown. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that an unknown fuel system part needed to be replaced and that a recall associated with the failure would soon be issued. The dealer later contacted the vehicle owner and offered to perform the fuel system repair free of charge; however, the contact was informed that the coverage was contingent upon paying for several unrelated repairs. The contact declined the repairs due to the cost.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM — Filed 09/21/2026

While operating my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, a strong raw gasoline odor began entering the passenger compartment through the HVAC vents. The odor is present while driving but becomes significantly stronger when the vehicle is stopped and idling. After the engine is turned off, the gasoline odor gradually improves. The condition has occurred repeatedly. I am concerned about occupants being exposed to gasoline vapors inside the passenger compartment and the potential safety risk associated with fuel vapors being present during normal vehicle operation. I contacted a Mitsubishi dealership regarding the problem. The dealer advised that the only open recall currently showing for the vehicle is an unrelated software recall. The fuel odor has not yet been diagnosed or repaired by the dealer. Mitsubishi has issued Technical Service Bulletin TSB-25-17-001, “In-Cabin Fuel Smell When Vehicle Is Idling or Being Driven,” for 2022-2024 Outlanders. The bulletin describes fuel evaporation causing an in-cabin fuel odor associated with the location of the canister vent and provides a repair procedure involving the fuel filler tube assembly and vent location. There were no warning lights associated with the condition and no crash, fire, or injury. The vehicle is available for inspection.

STRUCTURE — Filed 03/15/2024

The hood on my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has visibly fluttered, shaken and bounced while driving since I purchased the vehicle used on March 15, 2024, with approximately 80,000 miles. This has been an ongoing condition throughout my ownership, not a single isolated incident. The movement is especially noticeable at highway speeds and can be clearly seen from inside the vehicle while driving. I am concerned that the amount of hood movement could present a safety risk while the vehicle is being operated. I contacted a Mitsubishi dealership regarding the hood flutter and was told they were not aware of this issue. The condition has not been repaired or corrected. Mitsubishi has issued multiple technical service bulletins addressing hood flutter on the 2022 Outlander. Mitsubishi technical information describes hood flutter and bouncing while driving and includes repair procedures intended to address the condition. More recent Mitsubishi technical information also addresses insufficient hood reinforcement on certain 2022 Outlanders and the use of a reinforced hood. There have been no warning lights associated with the condition and no crash, fire or injury. The vehicle is available for inspection. I have video documentation clearly showing the hood visibly fluttering and bouncing while the vehicle is being driven.

Strong Gas smell coming into can of car and through air vents when ideling

Since the first summer of ownership, a strong gasoline odor enters the passenger cabin. It is worst above roughly 100F ambient, a daily condition in southern [XXX], and is present while driving, while idling with the A/C on, and while the vehicle sits parked. The odor is strong enough that the vehicle cannot be parked in an attached garage in summer because fumes enter the house. A small child rides in this vehicle daily and breathes these vapors in an enclosed cabin. Repairs directed at this problem have been performed seven times since July 2023. The rear vent hose was rerouted. The fuel filler pipe was replaced under factory technical service bulletin TSB-25-17-001, fuel smell in cabin during idling, with the cause recorded as fuel smell from rear evap vent pipe positioning. The cabin filter was replaced and the A/C deodorized, the order stating the work was to help get rid of excess fuel smell from previous repair. A fuel line breather hose was ordered and later installed, the technician recording that the rear vent valve on the fuel filler neck was causing the smell in the cabin. A three-day inspection recorded no fuel smell below 90F but slight smell present after the vehicle sat in the sun at 98F. Most recently the fuel filler neck was replaced again under the bulletin with manufacturer authorization, the repair order stating CONFIRMED CONCERN, fuel smell coming from inside cabin when engine idling and A/C on. The odor was present again the same day that most recent repair was completed and it remains present now. The affected components are available for inspection. No warning lamps have appeared at any point. The manufacturer has an open customer case on this vehicle. Dealer inspections report no visible fuel leak, but the odor has never been eliminated after seven attempts over three years. After pumping gas there is a strong smell of gasoline in the vehicle. This is a safety issue for anyone in the vehicle inhaling the fumes. It seems to get stronger when the vehicle is on (for instance at a stop light) the dealership acknowledge this was more common for the 2024 and 2025 models and only a service alert. Vehicle has been inspected by a service tech. No warning lights are on.

BACK OVER PREVENTION — Filed 08/19/2026

The front and rear backup cameras on my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander have completely failed, leaving me with a blank, black screen. This creates a severe safety hazard when parking and reversing. My vehicle's VIN explicitly shows an active "Remedy Status: Repair Available" on the official Mitsubishi portal for safety recalls SR-25-001, SR-23-001, and SR-22-003.The local dealerships claim the recall was already completed in April. However, if the safety issue was truly and permanently fixed, the "Remedy Status" column would match and say "Completed." Instead, the manufacturer's live system explicitly says "Repair Available," proving my vehicle is legally owed the updated software fix.Despite this clear safety status, Jeremy Franklin Mitsubishi (demanding 182) and Northtowne Mitsubishi (demanding 169) are refusing to perform these safety repairs unless I pay an out-of-pocket diagnostic fee. Mitsubishi Corporate Customer Relations has also refused to stop the dealerships from imposing these illegal financial barriers on an open federal safety recall

Make and Model of my car was recalled for a faulty Fuel Pump System, however my car was never listed as being one of those recalled, my fuel has now gone out due to this and I should be able to have this repaired. Car stalled in the middle of a busy intersection, will work once jumped, battery and alternator were both tested.

POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 05/24/2026

2 issues contributed to accident: 1st - Vehicle did not go into Park when button on gear shift was pushed. Driver did not notice that vehicle remained in Drive and exited the vehicle. 2nd - Vehicle did not automatically engage the emergency brake/park mode it is designed to do when Vehicle is in drive and driver door opens. As a result, Vehicle began to roll forward. Driver was knocked down and fell to ground and Vehicle ran over her legs, coming to a stop with the rear Driver side tire on her leg.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION — Filed 02/26/2025

I was backing out of my driveway and my camera froze and I ran into a truck that was parked behind my car. The form would not let me continue until I checked the air bags box. But I do not know if that pertains to this situation

AIR BAGS — Filed 05/05/2024

Driver side airbag deployed with over power at the time of low speed front collision with flying from opposite direction of the parkway car wheel. Caused neck and back spinal cord disc herniation, damaged shoulder, torn muscle, concussion. Still going for PT every day for over a year. Car taken by insurance - total loss.

SEATS — Filed 01/12/2025

On January 12 at 9:54am I was driving less than a 1/4 of a mile. I stopped at a stop sign and my cabin was filled with smoke. I thought it was coming from the engine so i turned the heat off for the car. I proceeded to the next stop sign and I then realized that my driver side seat was on fire and the smoke was coming out from between my legs for the seat was burning from the inside. I have taken the car to the dealership and it is reported that there is a faulty heating element in the seat. The car can not be started for each time the car is started the fire reignites. Due to the air bags being attached to this same control panel I can not drive the car off the lot. This car is a huge safety issue.

Unaware of the airbags under the steering wheel until I was in an accident, the airbags deployed causing traumatic injury to both legs. Accident happened November 26. Still numb on part of my left leg currently still healing.

Apparently the fuel system (fuel canister, fuel dispender, fuel vapor valves). It caused fuel, gasoline, odor to enter inside the vehicle cabin, causing dizziness and nausea to me, my wife and two kids. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. They try to fix it on 3 different occasions without sucess. As of today they requested the vehicle as they recognized is a safety issue and handed my a temporary vehicle. They told me that the repair date is indefinite as the parts doesn't exist in the US, and was order directly to the manufacturer (outside of US). I have knowledge about other persons that are experimenting the same problem.

The warning light starts flashing to alert me it is not active, this happened periodically but the dealer was unable to see it happen. Saw it happening so I went to take it to the dealer but didn’t notice the car in front of me due to the flashing light taking my attention and hit the car in front of me.

As I was parking the parking sensors didn’t engage to say I was too close to another vehicle causing me to side swipe the other vehicle! I thought it was just me but still 4 days later anytime I park the sensors don’t alert me as being too close! The forward and reverse emergency brake system is not engaging as it used to do!

While backing out of my driveway, the rearview camera did not function properly and there was a collision with a dumpster in the neighbor's driveway. This resulted in the shattering of the back glass and the reordering of the entire back lift gate of the vehicle.

The defect is reported by the air bag on the driver's side. This defect caused emotional and physical damage in which a doctor certified trauma to the head and legs due to the malfunction of the air bag. The vehicle is currently in the workshop to be fixed, so it has not been evaluated by a dealer. on the other hand, if it was inspected by shop personnel and the insurance representative. Before the accident, the vehicle did not turn on warning lights or any other signal that would notify the defect.

AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 05/26/2022

Front Collision Mitigation System, FCM, failed on frontal impact and airbags did not deploy. Vehicle did not activate audible or display emergency warning signals prior to frontal impact. We filed a complaint with Mitsubishi Motors national CR, and Director of Service with many calls, voicemails and emails just fell on deaf ears. Their response documented in the case report on the last call we made to Mitsubishi Motors on 6/17/22 the CR rep said the decision is final and that they would not do anything, and we should contact our insurance. Mitsubishi's not only "Did not inspect the vehicle" but also never inquired with any intelligent questions as to why the airbags and FCM system failed to operate. Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone and is currently in my garage with less then 400 miles on it and is available for inspection. No prior warning lights were displayed. The dashboard currently displays crash signal and forward warning lights.

My wife was parked and inadvertently put the Outlander in gear while turned around to get something from the back seat. By the time she noticed the Outlander was moving they ran into the front end of a SUV about 20 feet away. No warning alerts went off nor did the imminent crash braking engage.

bought new 2022 Outlander for daughter because of Safety features. She wasn't paying attention and got into a very standard rear end collision with air bags going off. The Frontal collision system did not give a warning signal and did not do any emergency braking. The system was not turned off by us.
