ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM — Filed 09/24/2026

On Thursday, XXX at 14:44 pm while driving on route 202 in [XXX], the car made a loud popping sound from under the hood, followed by other metallic sounds, then all dashboard warning indicator lights flashed & the accelerator stoped working. As the car was being steered to the shoulder, a huge plume of black smoke rose from under the hood followed by a roaring fire from under the hood. As per our written correspondence to USAA, Our insurance company is conducting a forensic cause/analysis. We have no definitive causation determination as of this writing. The car is available for inspection at the police private towing facility. The police & fire department closed route 202 to battle the car fire. No dealer has examined the car remains, to our knowledge, as of yet. The warning lights appeared almost simultaneously as the loud popping sound and other under hood metallic sounds. The insurance company said they will conduct a forensic source /cause analysis investigation. We will report this car fire next to Nissan consumer safety and both organizations can coordinate investigations, as far as we anticipate. Not applicable regarding reproducing the massive car car. While trying to get into my vehicle my door wouldn't open. I had to open it manually with my key. Once inside, I noticed the door locks Also wouldn't lock or unlock my driver's side door. After searching into this, I fear if I dont manually lock it while in use (driving) my car door can fly open.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 12/23/2023

My front and back auto collision breaking sensor keeps going off as if something is in front of me. It’s not in the back as well. Also will indicate on my dash that there is a vehicle following me too far fast or too close and there will be nothing behind me. This is very scary when I first started happening. I looked it up online and a lot of vehicles are having problems with this as well as the break, actually stopping and not being able to release as a mother that travels with three children daily and take care of patients in my vehicle. This is very concerning. on the form it only allows you to give one pacific date but this is an ongoing issue. I would say on average. I see this sensor go on my dashboard at least 10 to 12 times a month. It eventually goes off, but I’m very fearful that I will be driving in the brake system will activate due to the faulty system sensors for the front and back.

Vehicle Information: 2020 Nissan Rogue Component: Structure/Doors Latch/Lock/Linkage Description of Incident: I am writing to report a serious safety defect regarding the front door lock actuators on my 2020 Nissan Rogue. Without warning, the front door lock actuator(s) completely failed, rendering the electronic locking and unlocking mechanism useless.This is a critical safety hazard. When the actuator fails, the door can become jammed and I cannot lock my front doors. In an emergency situation or a motor vehicle accident, first responders would not be able to open the doors from the outside, and occupants would be trapped inside due to this component failure. In safety situations I am unable to use the fob to unlock/lock the doors nor the buttons inside the car to lock/unlock. This is a well-documented and widespread issue with the 2014–2020 Nissan Rogue generation. Nissan is aware of this defect but has not issued a recall. I am requesting that the NHTSA launch an official safety investigation into Nissan's door latch and actuator assemblies before this defect results in a severe injury or fatal entrapment.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 03/24/2023

Drivers seat, unsafe movement wall car in motion, and when applying Brake. Seat lever at times constantly drains battery rear and forward motion sensor applies brakes when nothing obstructing rear seat belts have made it difficult to either secure or unsecure passengers door locks on driver side need to go around through passenger to unlock. We have taken in the gate to be fixed because the rear gate hatch comes down on its own so many issues with this vehicle. There are documentations at the dealership with service advisor in capital Auto Mall Parkway, Nissan. San Jose, California.

The door lock actuator no longer reliably locks or unlocks the driver's door.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — Filed 02/01/2026

Driver's side door locks intermittently will not lock or unlock with button or intelli key fob. Requiring to use manual key inside intelli key to unlock/lock car or manual inside lock itself. Multiple people have filed complaints about this. There is even a class action lawsuit. Something should be done to force Nissan to do a recall instead of saying we can fix it for $700. I understand that some may not see this as a specific safety issue but when coming to your car in a dark parking lot and having to search for the key to manually unlock it, feels a little like a safety issue to me. The front passenger door lock does not fully engage or disengage with the key fob or when putting the car in park. The lever must be maually controls by hand to unlock or lock the door.0

The 2020 Nissan rogue as I was driving, started smoking, then stalled. I immediately got out and popped the hood and there was flames everywhere. Entire engine bay burned. I saved the car from burning completely by dumping water. As I was in a national forest, that is very acceptable to wildfires. Fire department and fire investigator came out. Fire investigator said it was of his opinion that it started on the passenger side, electric cooling fan for the radiator. Which I agree after looking at the aftermath and noticing where to fire was coming from as I was putting it out.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 04/06/2026

Today when we attempted to back out of our driveway, the ABS came on unexpectedly and stopped the vehicle for no reason (spilling my hot coffee in my lap). I set the parking brake and got out of the car and walked around the back but there was no obstacle in the way or under the vehicle. I got back in, tried again and it locked up again. I then backed up the rest of the way, shifted to drive and drove it for a few minutes without incident. About 1/2 hour later, my wife experienced the exact same thing backing out of the driveway. Recently, the vehicle was struck in the rear corner (passenger side) and was repaired with no apparant issues by a professional body repair shop. I can see this is a common problem (many internet posts), and I want to report it since no recalls are in place. This is DANGEROUS and has also happed to drivers when driving at highway speeds. This MUST BE ADDRESSED or you guys (NTSB) have no purpose to exist anymore. Please make it happen.

Started the car and then the engine caught fire. Front of the car is completely charred and fire had to be put out by the fire department. Car is totaled now. This complaint has been raised with Nissan Consumer Affairs.

ENGINE — Filed 12/10/2025

The contact owned a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH during rush hour traffic, the contact became aware of a chemical odor, and within seconds there was black smoke entering the cabin of the vehicle. The contact immediately pulled over and there were flames coming from under the hood. The contact stated that there was a MIL warning light illuminated after the flames started. The contact was locked and trapped inside the burning vehicle. The contact was frantically trying to roll the windows down because the vehicle failed to turn off. The contact was then able to roll the rear driver’s side window down and a bystander was able enter into the rear driver side window, unlock the door, and pull the contact from the vehicle. The Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was first towed to Redmond Towing in Alexandria VA and was deemed to be a total loss. A Police Department and Fire Department report was taken at the scene. The contact refused treatment at the scene but was later taken to Urgent Care by her husband to be treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 27,000.

The contact owns a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the vehicle had been parked at the residence for approximately two hours when she looked out her window and noticed that the vehicle had caught fire. There were no warning lights prior to the failure. There were no reported injuries. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. There was no reported crash, police report, or air bag deployment. The local dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE — Filed 08/20/2020

I purchased finance my car july 2024. Took it for an oil change and tire rotation. Jenkin Nissan came upon a crack damage and bent front sub frame. Im am being told I should not be driving my car. I took it to Hgreg twice. Because I was loosing air in my passenger tire. They told me there was a nail in it. Hut never plug it. They zip tie the bottom where everything was hanging. My 5 days was up. For me to return my vehicle

AIR BAGS — Filed 05/22/2024

Airbag did not deploy when in accident that resulted in total loss. Car stuck pole head on, then reversed into another pole before landing in a body of water. Driver was unconscious during accident.

I was backing out of my parking spot at work and backed into a car. My backup safety sensor’s did not work. No warning I was near anything. It should have stopped me from hitting anything especially another car. The backup camera has had times of not working.

On May 17, 2024 my 2020 Nissan Rogue malfunctioned after the ignition button was pressed to start the car, and burst into flames. 1.What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Unknown but fire began in the upper left quadrant area of engine. 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It was a fire with the potential to cause an explosion. 3.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?No. 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Car inspected by insurance. Manufacturer was notified. 5.Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Once the ignition button was pressed a barrage of warning lights came on including: brake failure, headlight failure, chassis control failure. The smell of smoke was detectable immediately.

AIR BAGS — Filed 04/13/2024

The contact owns a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, a 2006 Harley Davidson Dyna Glide Custom motorcycle crossed the center line and crashed head-on into her vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver-side skirt air bag was deployed. The driver sustained concussions, burns, shoulder, a back pain, and bruises. The front passenger was her son who sustained bruises from his shoulder to his buttocks and has PTSD and anxiety. The rear passenger, her daughter, sustained bruises to her body and has anxiety and PTSD. All three occupants were provided medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The unknown local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired  The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The VIN was not available. 

BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 08/08/2023

I was pulling into a parking space with my foot on the brake going about 2 mph. About 4 feet from a pole the engine raced and the car slammed into the pole. The airbags did not deploy. I was the only person in the car and my foot was still on the bake after the collision I asked Nissan to investigate and they said I would have to wait to get the car fixed for two months and store and tow it at my own expense. It was already being repaired and my insurance company will only pay for a rental for 50 days.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — Filed 01/17/2023

The front censors activated during snow storm triggering the brakes to lock and steering wheel to lock. The car slid 50 yards across 3way stop sign intersection into a house front lawn. The same censors keep coming on all the time thinking that something is in front of car but nothing is there. I have recorded the censors lights on a few times. Nissan an Nissan dealer have told but no one seems to try to fix it. I'm filing a complain with NY State attorney general office. I can't take it anymore.

Pulling into Parking space at the Mall...went to brake and husband's foot got caught under brake pedal between gas pedal and brake. not able to release his foot to get on brake pedal car would not stop , put car into park did not stop we hit the car in front. This is the second Accident because of this issue....

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER BRAND NEW NISSAN ROGUE 2020, SHE WAS HEADED TO WORK AND IT WAS SNOWING. AS SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE AUTOMATED EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM LITERALLY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT FULL FORCE MAKING HER SLIP AND GO OVER A CURB, MY WIFE DID NOT EVEN TOUCH THE BRAKES ALL SHE HAD TIME TO DO WAS BRACE FOR THE CRASH. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY I WOULD NOT HAVE A WIFE RIGHT NOW THIS HAPPENED ON 01/27/2021. THE COLLISION SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE CAUSED THIS DUE TO WHAT THE VEHICLE ITSELF IS SAYING MALFUNCTION IN THE FRONT AND REAR COLLISION SYSTEMS. SHE WAS SCARED TO DEATH THE COLLISION SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO STOP ACCIDENTS NOT CAUSE THEM. I HAVE A CLAIM NUMBER WITH NISSAN AS WELL FOR THIS [XXX}. MY VEHICLES RIM IS CRACKED, INNER TIE RODS BROKE, THE COLLISION SYSTEM WILL NOT LET ME DRIVE THE CAR AS WHEN I START MOVING IT THE BRAKES ENGAGE IMMEDIATELY ITS MAKING A HORRIBLE SHAKING NOISE LIKE ITS STALLING AND I CAN HEAR THE BRAKES ENGAGING AND TRYING TO ACTIVELY STOP THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT WANT MY WIFE OR ANYONE DRIVING THIS CAR. THIS IS SUPER DANGEROUS AND I WANT THOSE SENSORS EITHER REMOVED OR NISSAN WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR MY CAR SO I CAN GET A NEW ONE THIS COULD KILL THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IF ITS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 - 20 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE ASSIST ACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP AS IF THE BRAKES WERE INTENTIONALLY STOPPED BUT THEY WERE NOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT A STOP SIGN WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED CAUSING THEM TO BE REAR ENDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED INJURIES TO THEIR BACK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TOWED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A FOURTH TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THEN, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON AGAIN IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN PROPER FUNCTION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (PEARSON NISSAN OF OCALA 2060 SW COLLEGE RD, OCALA, FL 34471; (352) 622-4111) WHO WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE FAILURE AND IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AFTER I SLOWED DOWN THE VEHICLE TO PARK IN MY GARAGE. I HEARD AN ENGINE REVVING NOISE PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATING. IT WENT THROUGH THE BACK OF MY GARAGE, OVER THE DECK AND FIINALLY WAS STOPPED UPON IMPACT WITH A TREE STUMP IN THE BACKYARD. SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED BUT FRONT DID NOT.
