2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Complaints

I had a complete loss of steering and had to have the truck towed to the dealership. This could have caused a very serious accident. There was no previous warning - it just went out. The dealership charged me $2183 to replace the steering gear. According to the literature, the steering function should last to well past 100K miles (my truck had 66,552 miles on it). In addition, there are multiple reports of steering going out online - perhaps a recall is in order. The literature also states that if diagnostic code C1599 then the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. That is the code that the dealership saw - it sounds like the fix could have been much simpler and cheaper.

Without prior warning my power steering went out. This could have been life threatening. I had to have it towed to the dealership (Voss Chevy, Centerville OH). The truck had 66,552 miles on it and the extended warranty that we purchased thru Voss expired on 26 Mar 2026 and although we were under the 75K mileage, they would not honor it (planned obsolescence?) So they replaced the steering gear for $2183. After researching, the literature says that diagnostic code C1599 (which is what Voss saw) indicated that the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. In addition, literature says that a steering rack should last at least to 100K miles. There are also multiple issues documented on carcomplaints.com regarding the loss of power steering. Perhaps a recall is needed. In addition, I believe we were mislead as to what repairs were needed.

Transmission started shuttering on way to work went out before making it home. No problem before this trip.

The contact stated that a body-to-chassis grounding strap was previously replaced under GM Customer Satisfaction Program: N252515590 (Corroded Ground Strap); however, after the repair, the vehicle experienced electrical failures. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the engine failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the starter and the ECM were replaced. Additionally, the dealer determined that a secondary grounding strap needed to be replaced, but the part was not covered under the Customer Satisfaction Program. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired again. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I was driving on the highway and lost all power steering. Almost in an accident. complete loss of power steering

SERVICE BRAKES — Filed 06/24/2026

In September 2004, I filed a complaint on my 2019 chevrolet Silverado was making a noise from under the steering wheel (like a click noise at least twice) also the brakes were changing the movement when I pressed the brakes. One night the brakes completely went out while driving at 55 mph. I tried everything from pumping hard but the pedal went all the way to the floor with no result. I related the gas until the vehicle came to a stop. From there I placed the vehicle on park in the middle of an intersection. When the traffic light turned green I placed the vehicle on D and it moved but still with no brakes. I parked on the side of the road and called a wrecker to tow my truck home. It was could not be driven. After filling a complaint the local dealership called me and fixed it free of charge. Last week the noise on the steering wheel came back and the brakes are acting funny again. I have my two daughters ages [XXX] and [XXX] in my truck and I am requesting another inspection to my vehicle before another accident can happen. POWER TRAIN,ENGINE — Filed 06/03/2026

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle failed to exceed 6 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The dealer had retrieved DTC: P2074. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. While driving in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle failed to accelerate and unexpectedly shifted into park(P). The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart, and the battery was disconnected and reconnected. The vehicle was then taken back to the local dealer, and additional diagnostic tests were recommended. The contact was informed that the torque converter and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was related to Technical Service Bulletin: 23-NA-018. The manufacturer was contacted and informed that the dealer should use a flow chart. No assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH and approaching a red traffic light, the vehicle stalled. There was an oil message flashing on the screen instructing the driver to pull over. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed about the GM Customer Satisfaction Program: N212326940. The local dealer was contacted and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

ENGINE — Filed 06/12/2026

6-12-26 while driving down the highway the engine suddenly started running rough. Multiple warning lights came on and sounded like a muffled backfire. The truck has confirmed lifter failure as well as camshaft damage enough to where they're replacing an engine I still have no ETA on getting my truck back the truck only has about 72 or 73,000 miles.

While driving, my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 suddenly lost engine power approximately a quarter mile from my home. The vehicle has only 35,000 miles. A check engine light indicated a misfire, and I confirmed cylinder 7 was misfiring. I replaced the spark plug, plug wire, and coil pack, but the misfire continued. The dealership diagnosed a failed lifter in the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system and is disassembling the engine to assess further damage. This matches the widely documented AFM lifter failure pattern in GM 5.3L V8 engines. The sudden loss of motive power while driving created a safety hazard. All maintenance was performed at GM dealerships.
