2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Complaints

ENGINE — Filed 06/22/2026

On June 22, 2026, my Chevy Silverado was inoperable and had to be towed to the Chevy dealership. After a period of examination by the service staff, it was deemed to have experienced CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. My truck has the 6.2L engine, but was NOT included in the original recall. It had just been serviced on 6/19/2026 and was only driven approx. 20 miles to my home. I have a video of what it was doing when I went to leave for work two days later on 6/22 when it wouldn't run without major issues and a burning smell.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING — Filed 07/10/2026

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the engine occasionally overheated. The check engine warning light was illuminated for a day, and there were six diagnostic trouble codes displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the coolant flow control valve was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the repair was not covered under warranty or recall. The contact became aware of GMC Special Programs: N252508340 and N25250834, which were associated with the failure; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

ENGINE — Filed 07/13/2026

The Coolant Control Valve (DTC Code P1098) is failing and only certain trucks are covered under GMs special coverage, being as this is a common issues why aren't all the trucks covered

POWER TRAIN — Filed 07/16/2026

Transmission needs to be replaced at 77000 miles!! A KNOWN problem with this make/model/year and NOTHING is being done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Chevy Silverado has a transmission defect that is under recall shift to park and my vin number is not included. I am disappointed because it’s exactly the same problem as the other ones.

May 28 ,2026 I left work to get some lunch And when I went back inside my vehicle I turned it on and the check engine light came On and on the dash it was telling me to park the truck and it wasn’t going more then 45mph so I called my dealer ship simspson Chevrolet in garden grove and they told me they couldn’t do anything because it wasn’t under warranty so I had to take my truck to a near by auto shop because my truck is my daily and I use to get to work so the. The body shop found out the problem it was the wiring harness it was the way they installed the wiring harness it’s manufacturing I called my insurance company and I called GMC directly and they don’t want to help me

ENGINE — Filed 07/11/2026

An engine lifter broke in my 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 (6.2 liter) and it bent a push rod. The truck was towed to the dealership where it was purchased. They replace all the lifters on the failed side and the bent push rod. The reason I am reporting this is because it happened at a very unfortunate time and could have resulted in a major accident if the engine would have seized. I was turning a corner, crossing oncoming highway traffic, and pulling our camper/travel trailer. I see that it has been a relatively common problem with the GM 6.2L and even some 5.3L motors and appears to be related to GM's active fuel management (AFM).

Truck blew up driving down the road and the the Chevy app gave me a code and it was the same code it is recalled for but I was told it wasn’t under recall

Loss of engine power while merging or passing traffic. * Reduced acceleration making it difficult to enter highways safely. * Engine overheating if the active grille shutters fail in the closed position. * Unexpected limp mode causing sudden speed reduction in traffic. * Increased risk of a rear-end collision due to loss of power or reduced speed. * Check engine light and warning messages distracting the driver. * Vehicle stalling while driving or at intersections. * Reduced visibility if the defroster or HVAC performance is affected by engine temperature issues. * Potential engine damage from overheating, creating a hazard if the vehicle becomes disabled on the roadway. The active grille shutter system malfunctioned and caused warning lights to illuminate. I am concerned that the shutters remaining closed could lead to engine overheating or reduced vehicle performance while driving, increasing the risk of an accident due to loss of power or unexpected vehicle behavior in traffic.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — Filed 08/30/2025

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the message that the rear seats were occupied and that the windows were rolled down was displayed, which required the contact to press the OK button. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was purchased, but no assistance was provided. The traction control and the ABS warning lights were illuminated while depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, the cruise control mode was inoperable. The contact replaced the brake pedal position sensor independently, and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who reprogrammed the sensor. The contact stated that after the repair, the brake lights erroneously illuminated while the vehicle was turned off, causing the battery to drain. The contact disconnected and reconnected the battery, which reset the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not further diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 110,881.
