    Airbag system issue

    AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

    Consequence

An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

    Remedy

Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

What the ratings mean

NHTSA gives the 2024 Infiniti QX50 5 out of 5 stars overall, level with the 5-star median for the 13 comparable 2024 vehicles NHTSA rated in this class.

NHTSA published results for every NCAP test in this program, so the overall star rating rests on a complete set of crash and rollover results.

NHTSA's dynamic test put this vehicle's rollover probability at 14.7% in a single-vehicle crash — the figure behind the rollover star rating, published here because the star alone hides how wide each band is.

How this compares

At 26 MPG combined, the 2024 Infiniti QX50 ranks 9th of 14 small SUVs (2WD) EPA rated for 2024 — 3.2 MPG short of the 29.2 MPG median for that group.

That places it in the lower third of its class. If annual mileage is high, the running-cost gap against a class-average rival compounds quickly.

EPA puts annual fuel spend at about $2,900, $900 more than the $2,000 typical for the class. Over five years at 15,000 miles a year that is roughly $14,500, a $4,500 difference against a class-median vehicle.

Tailpipe CO₂ is 343 grams per mile — about 5.1 metric tons over 15,000 miles of driving.
